About BACOG
The Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG) is a
voluntary association of elected officials representing seven villages and two
townships in the Barrington
area. As a regional planning organization, BACOG represents seven municipalities
and two townships in the northwest Chicago
metropolitan area. Its mission is to
foster cooperation and strategies to address regional challenges and support
the Comprehensive Plan. The organization is involved in land use and
development, environmental protection, groundwater research, legislative
action, shared services, development impact fees, public safety, community
development, technology and the regional geographic information system (GIS).
About Municipal and
Township Government
Municipal governments are administered by a Village
President and a Board of Trustees. The
Village Board is responsible for ensuring the Village has effective and
responsive leadership to meet community and organizational requirements. They are involved in issues such as planning and
zoning, public safety, environmental protection and quality, maintenance of
local roads and bridges, and community and economic development.
Township governments are administered through a Township
Supervisor and a Board of Trustees.
Township functions include helping those in need through a general
assistance program, assessment of property, and maintenance of township roads
and bridges. Beyond these mandated
services, many townships offer a variety of social services such as senior
citizen and youth programs, transportation and cemetery maintenance.

BACOG or BACOG members, please visit their websites.

BACOG and its members may periodically offer unpaid internships to upper level undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in geography (GIS), planning, or natural resources. Please contact the BACOG office for more information.
