GIS Day 2009 - in Review!
BACOG held a Map Gallery & Open House Event for the public on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Barrington Area Library. The map gallery demonstrated how GIS was used for map making in both local and regional projects ranging from asset management to environmental resources. The open house also had materials about GIS careers, free and open-source mapping tools, and Census 2010 / LUCA information.
The Barrington Area Geographic Information System (BAGIS) works with local governments, counties, regional agencies, and the state to share and improve information that gives local staff and officials better access to geographic information.
Here are just a few ways that BACOG, its members, and community organizations use GIS and mapping:
- Analyzing and communicating information about groundwater resources
- Maintaining and analyzing geographically referenced information like utilities, crime, and planning information
- Creating maps to communicate IYA observation locations, book drop locations, or routing snow plows in the winter
