BAGIS Maps & Data Program
In 2009-2010 BACOG is launching a Maps & Data Program under the Barrington Area Geographic Information Systems Program to provide valuable mapping assistance to local members.
Program Components:
1 . Initial Data Updates: BACOG's GIS Analyst will work with staff and/or officials to validate and update zoning, streets, addressing, landmarks, neighborhoods, and other local datasets that the village and/or township has specified as their target layers.
2. Preliminary Maps: Preliminary 11 x 17 formatted maps will be issued to each village & township for review of their maps & data products.
3. Final Maps: BACOG will provide finalized maps with corrected/updated information both in PDF format and 15 paper copies. Villages & Townships are encouraged to post these maps on their own sites (with BACOG assistance if needed) and to allow these maps to be displayed in the BACOG Public Map Gallery online.
All data developed from the Maps & Data Program, as well as any data/maps generated during consortium hours can be accessed electronically in ArcExplorer. Members will receive on-site training on how to use free GIS data viewing software called ArcExplorer. Off-site training will also be available periodically for groups.
GIS data viewers like ArcExplorer let staff & officials zoom in & out of the map, view aerial photos, measure distances, access relevant data (like parcel information from the counties), does not rely on an internet connection, and can incorporate any GIS data from local, state, or federal entities.
Please contact the BACOG office at (847) 381-7871 for more information about this forthcoming program.
