The Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG) is a voluntary organization of elected officials representing seven local villages and two townships in the Barrington area: Barrington, Barrington Hills, Barrington Township, Cuba Township, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington, and Tower Lakes.
As a regional planning organization, BACOG serves to:
- Develop, implement and uphold the BACOG Comprehensive Plan.
- Develop and promote policies, plans and priorities for regional growth, development and conservation.
- Discuss, study and act on issues of regional interest and concern.
- Promote cooperative arrangements for shared services, intergovernmental agreements, and shared districts.
Recently, BACOG has worked on several submissions to the Surface Transportation Board (STB) in opposition to the EJ&E/CN Railroad Acquisition Opposition. In addition, BACOG and its members have adopted a Legislative Platform 2009 that is consistent with the needs of local governments, residents, and the organizational objectives outlined in the Comprehensive Plan. Work on the Water Resources Initiative and Barrington Area Geographic Information Systems (BAGIS) Program continue to provide valuable services to local government and community organizations.
